Our House on the Corner of the Street

While in the midst of our house being in shambles & staying at my parents while we get new flooring installed, I’m feeling nostalgic &, to be quite honest, so overwhelmed with frustration that I am in dire need of a reminder to be humble & fill my heart with gratitude instead.

It’s so easy to get caught up in day-to-day emotions & goings-on that you forget exactly how far you’ve come & just how many blessings are going unnoticed because of where you currently stand in life.

But may I just say that whoever’s idea it was to get new flooring in the entire house 5 weeks before baby’s due date is the dumbest.. Oh, wait. That was me. I guess some of the blame could be pointed at Clint, but he’s too cute & has worked too dang hard the past week (& forever) to be mad at right now 🙂

Our Own Little Home

4.5 years ago, we bought our quaint little home on the corner. We loved the idea of making it our own & updating it over the years. The previous owners lived here for about a year & a half, & before that, it was a foreclosure. Let’s just say, there was a lot of “making it our own” that needed to be done. However, the new roof, siding & vinyl fence were definitely a plus.

I so wish that I had better photos of the house from when we first bought it. We were so anxious to get going on projects, that before photos weren’t really on our mind.

Let’s just reminisce for a moment…& when I say moment, I mean this entire post 😀

This was our home when we first moved in.

We closed on the house in mid-November of 2013, but had a pretty extensive list of must-have updates that needed to be done before moving in.

The kitchen cabinets were being held on by one or two screws each. Yup. You heard that right.. *Face palm*

We had been living in my parents basement for over a year & literally had our bed, TV & a couple shelves to hang. This was our seating arrangement while we remodeled for a month! hahaha

Initial Projects

The previous owners had crap in the crawl space & couldn’t fit it through the door, so this is what we were left with when we moved in? Yeah… Super cool of them.

Luckily, my dad & Clint have skills & sealed all that business right up.

One particularly ridiculous element of the “remodel” was the sketchy wiring jobs & terrible sheetrock patching that was done in the kitchen & living room. How in the world the house had not burned down, we have no idea. Excuse my language when I say that the majority of the issues in the house were because they were half-assed. Thank goodness for the men in my life who actually know what the term “repair” means.

Every single room was also a different color. Forest green, burnt orange, teal, & another that I think they were going for “gray”, but was more purple than anything. So we bought gallons upon gallons of paint & got rid of ALL of that madness with a more neutral themed approach.

Moved In!

As full-time working students, we were so proud of our little set-up. I look at it now, & my heart is so happy & full knowing how far we & our little house has come since then 🙂

FAST FORWARD … 2 years

Clint surprised me with bamboo flooring from the front door to the kitchen! It was an amazing addition & a HUGE update at the time from the linoleum & nasty carpet.

We may or may not have lived without cupboard doors for over a year. You know… LIFE HAPPENS & things get put on the back burner, but check it out after we put these amazing shelves my dad made 😮 !!! I stained them naturally with apple cider vinegar & steel wool, & they turned out EXACTLY as I had hoped.

It’s honestly so surreal & satisfying to see your whole house torn apart knowing that in just a few days it’s going to all pay off! Granted, we still have a ton of work to. Door casings, baseboards, the bannister, de-junking. I’m tired just thinking about it while simultaneously anxiously excited!

Before & After photos are to come! I know the two people that actually look at my blog (one of which is my husband) are just so excited 😀
